Summer has truly arrived! Fresh Peach Pie this week with peaches picked right off the tree at Great Country Farm. This was delicious! Just a regular recipe...nothing fancy. Baked the crust and as it cooled added some glaze, then fresh sliced peaches, then glaze, peaches and a little more glaze. Whole thing sat in the fridge for a few hours and boy was it yummy. The glaze was just some mashed up peaches, sugar, water and cornstarch and it was just enough...not too gooey or gummy, just a nice addition to the taste of the fresh peaches. The boys were a little skeptical but after that first bite, they all declared, "This is the best pie ever." The entire pie was gone by the night's end. We topped it with whipped cream but it didn't even need it! Definitely a winner!

Week 29: Peaches and Cream Pie
Wow! This was fantastic. Thanks to Sweetie-licious for the recipe and Great Country Farm for the peaches right off the tree and my fabulous peach pickers (child labor), this was a super delicious, fresh, summery pie. Started with a nice butter crust, followed by a creamy, custardy layer-basically a vanilla custard with a hint of almond extract and then topped with fresh peaches and a peach glaze. Everyone liked this pie. The littles seemed to like the peach part best but JP was in for the whole thing just like mom and dad. Definitely a winner. Only issue we had were sliding peaches as I didn't let it sit long enough for the glaze to really hold it firm....we couldn't wait to eat it and who really cares about extra peaches on their plate! No whipped cream or ice cream even needed...pure deliciousness!
Week 28: Blueberry Peach Pie
So, I love the combination of blueberries and peaches. I eat it most mornings on my oatmeal, especially when the peaches are fresh...how can you beat hot peaches in oatmeal? Well, add some blueberries, I say. This was a great combination in pie too. Plus, this recipe was topped with a pecan streusel...how delicious?! It was a big hit. Here's the recipe: http://www.momontimeout.com/2013/08/peach-blueberry-pie-pecan-streusel-topping/.
Week 27: Blueberry Pie
Ah, blueberry pie...where have you been? I've been waiting all year for this one and oh, was it heavenly?! This is our tried and true, make every year blueberry pie recipe. It's from Martha Stewart. This year though we did a crumb topping instead of a top crust and we all liked it. Doesn't overpower the blueberries and it's all oh so yummy together. The kids love this one too. How can you beat fresh picked blueberries from the farm mixed with a pie crust and crumb topping! We have a few bags of filling in the freezer for January when we are done trying new pies.
